Tonnara – Vendicari
This is the beach that can easily reached from the main entrance of Vendicari Reserve. It does not offer beach facilities, ideal for those who love the wilderness, you can park for free near the entrance of the reserve. From the entrance of the reserve, before reaching the beach, there are some wooden houses from which you can admire the pink flamingos. Close to the beach there are the remains of an ancient tuna fishery. HOW TO GET THERE Can be reached only by car/motorbike (20 minutes from Syracuse) From the hostel go right, go past the train station, via Ermocrate and go over the big roundabout towards “Noto-Avola” and all the directions (Catania included). Continue past the cemetery with a first set of traffic lights, and past the second traffic light. Keep on going straight ahead. When you see the blue sign to Catania (on the right) slow down a bit but continue past the exit Catania, and after 100 meters take the first left (following the green sign to Gela-Noto-Avola Rosolini: it is the same road to Catania but in the opposite direction). Once on the motorway Siracusa-Noto-Avola-Rosolini, take the exit Noto. After the exit follow the signs to Pachino – Portopalo CP. On the road Noto Pachino, after about 10 km you must turn left, following the signs to “RISERVA NATURALE DI VENDICARI”.
Tonnara – Vendicari E’ la spiaggia che si raggiunge dall’ingresso principale della riserva di Vendicari. Non è attrezzata, ideale per chi ama la natura selvaggia, si può parcheggiare gratuitamente vicino all’ingresso della riserva. Dall’ingresso della riserva, prima di giungere alla spiaggia, è possibile raggiungere i pantani ove si radunano i fenicotteri rosa, ed ammirarli dai capanni di osservazione. Sulla spiaggia si ergono i resti di un’antica tonnara. Raggiungibile solo con mezzi privati. Dall’ostello andare a destra, superare la stazione ferroviaria e la rotonda di Viale Ermocrate e proseguire dritto in direzione Avola-Noto. Si passa il cimitero con un primo semaforo, si prosegue e si arriva a un secondo semaforo. Sempre dritto. Quando si raggiunge il cartello per Catania si rallenta ma si prosegue e dopo 100 metri si svolta a sinistra indirezione Gela-Avola-Noto-Rosolini (é la medesima strada per Catania ma in direzione opposta). Una volta imboccata l’autostrada Siracusa-Avola-Noto-Rosolini, uscire a Noto. Dopo l’uscita seguire le indicazioni per Pachino o Portopalo di C.P. Sulla Noto Pachino, dopo circa 10 km si deve girare a sinistra, seguendo le indicazioni per la Riserva di Vendicari.
